I had a terrible time trying to sleep last night. Not sure what the deal was. I woke up at 3am and couldn't fall back to sleep. I finally gave up and got up at 5am to drive to Danielle's, too early for work but at least I could get online and check email and such. Not surprisingly Sunrise Espresso was not open that early. I don't think they open until 6am. No biggie, there is a mini-mart gas station around the corner from Danielle's. I figured I'd just swing by and pick up some coffee. Well, I figured wrong. They don't open until 6am either! I'm not in the big city anymore! Sheesh! What's a person got to do for a latte before 6am here?!?! Make it yourself?! What kind of crazy talk is that?! Aargh! Not happy! Oh well, I ventured out at 6 and got a latte and it's starting to kick in...
Went to two Ice Dogs hockey games this weekend. They played a team that is brand new this season and spanked them both nights. I felt kind of sorry for the new team but they'll get there. They weren't doing too bad for this being their first season.
On the way to the Compound after the game Saturday night, I notice you could kind of see the Northern Lights. I've seen them a couple of times since I moved back but they have been very small and faint. When we got to the Compound I was just amazed...the lights were bright, dancing everywhere and were amazing. I just stood outside for quite a while watching them. At one point they took up half the sky!! It was hard to figure out where to look, I didn't want to miss anything! The colors were awesome, too. Normally they are white and green. They were that and also red, lots of red. Pretty amazing!! The sky was kind of cloudy in parts and where the lights were behind the clouds they looked like they had been airbrushed. They were so amazing to just watch. I loved it! They are the best I've seen since I've been back, and one of the best displays I've ever seen. I saw a great display just before I moved from Anchorage a while back and another awesome display one night at Chena Hot Springs. I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing them!
