Has it been a month already since I last posted? I guess so considering all the hate mail I'm getting about it! :-) I don' t want to lose the precious few readers I have so I promise I'll be better about this.
Not a whole lot has been going on really. Just looking for a job. I've had some interviews and I keep hearing "over-qualified". Doesn't matter how much I tell them that I'm ok with taking a step back in responsibility and such....oh well. Those jobs just aren't meant to be. I did have three interviews last week and will hopefully be getting another one this week. We'll see. Oh, and by the way, Lowe's has yet to contact me. :-(
So I guess I did work for one day. I made the decision at lunch that it wasn't for me but ended up working the full day to be sure I wasn't making a rash decision. The job you ask? Driving a school bus. I had always thought of that as my ace in the hole, the paycheck and benefits if it got to that point. Well, that company is messed up. They are literally throwing you to the wolves. I've driven tour buses before so that wasn't an issue but I didn't agree with the lack of support the company provided you. They expected you to be driving your own route within one week....ONE WEEK! Are you kidding me?! The training program I went through before for the tour company lasted a couple of months before we ever drove a passenger. Here, it's one week and you're driving KIDS to and from school. Again, I can drive a bus so that's not an issue but do I want to be a part of a company like this, that doesn't adequately train and support their drivers (my own humble opinion)? Was I to that point of being desperate enough to do this? The answer came back a resounding NO so I quit. I let them know I was pursuing other opportunities.
Speaking of driving a tour bus, I did get a job driving this summer. It's seasonal and there are no benefits but it is a good job that I really enjoyed. I start training this week. I'm going to continue to look for full time work and if that works out, I will still drive part-time through the summer. I could definitely use the money. So it's something at least.
In keeping with what a dork I am, I'll share a quick interview story with you. I had an interview last Friday that I've been really excited about. I'll leave out who it was with to protect the names of the innocent. :-) Anyway, my interview that I was telling everyone was at 3pm on Friday was really at 1:45pm on Friday. Imagine my reaction when I got a call at 2pm asking where I was. OMG!!!!!!!! I cannot believe I did that!!! I asked her that if I got right over there could they still interview me and she said if I could make it within 15 minutes that would work. Half-dressed I was out the door driving like a bat out of hell to get there. About half-way there she called back and asked if I could just come in at 4:30 instead, that way it wouldn't be rushed. And if they could only get through four or five questions with me then that was all they could ask of everyone else. Anyway, I agreed that going in at 4:30 would be fine. I'd have gone in at midnight if they had asked! So at 4:20 I was there for the interview and they were ready for me. I say they....it was a panel interview, me against 7. I had no idea it was a panel interview but no biggie to me. The interview seemed to go fine. I had acquired a nice cough on Thursday and my voice sounded horrible but other than that, I think it was ok. At the end of the interview, I thanked them all for their flexibility in letting me go ahead and come in. They kind of chuckled and said not to worry. Then I said that if my mom knew what happened that she would be MORTIFIED, that she had raised me better than that! They really laughed when I said that. I also told them that I'd been taught if I was on-time I was late. Anyway it ended things on a light note. They have a long hiring process so it'll be a couple of weeks before I hear if I have a second interview.
That's pretty much it. We've been getting snow lately...snowed all last weekend, maybe four inches all told. It melted over the week and we had a beautiful weekend. Last night it started snowing again and I woke up to four inches on the ground and it's still falling. Up to seven inches total. It's a balmy 35 degrees out so the roads are a slushy mess. This time of year is fun, fun, fun!
