Somewhat Employed

Ok, so I'm somewhat employed. Well, how can I be somewhat employed? Isn't that like being kind of pregnant? Either you are your aren't. Ok, so I'm employed. It is a seasonal summer job in the tourism industry. I'll be driving a tour bus for the summer for one of the tour companies here. I did it when I lived here before and it is a GREAT job! The view from my office window is incomparable! If all goes according to plan, I will be driving tours up to Prudhoe Bay, where the oil fields are, and into Dawson City in the Yukon Territory where gold was discovered in 1896 that started the rush north. I used to live in Dawson City so it would be great to be driving tours there.

I wish there was some way to do this job all year long up here. I know I sound like a total dork but I love driving a bus. Driving big things is fun! I had forgotten how much I liked it until I sat in the driver's seat for the first time in about 13 years. Holy cow, has it been 13 years?!?! How did that happen?! Yikes! Well, I enjoy it as much now as I did back then. I'm working for a different company now and I like it a lot better. It is a much better run operation and the people are just great. I'm really looking forward to the summer!
All that being said, I had a second interview with the university yesterday. Yep, even though I screwed up on the time for the first interview, I still got a call back. I found out I was the only external candidate called back. There are two internal candidates that I'm up against. And well, I don't think I'm going to get the job. It was a great interview and I would like to work for the guy who interviewed me but he's got to decide between bringing in an external person with a fresh perspective on things and a lot of the experience he is looking for, or to go with an internal person who is already familiarity with the university system, the university politics and has a lot of contacts throughout the various offices. Not sure if this person has quite the experience I do but they bring a lot of other stuff to the plate. The hiring manager has to decide what's best for the group overall. I know it's nothing personal if I don't get it. He did ask that if he decided to go with the internal, if he had another position open up would I be willing to consider it. Duh! Of course! It was a positive experience and regardless of the way it goes I'll be fine.

So that's the scoop today. Just a few random things....gas is up to $3.69 a gallon. It has snowed just about every night since Friday, just a dusting of snow that's gone by noon. Sunny and beautiful today but supposed to cool off and snow/rain tonight. Kirk went to the cabin the past two weekends (I had training so I couldn't go) and saw fresh grizzly tracks by the carport. I'm getting a gun!!
