The Leaves are Already Changing

Don't freak out...another post so soon! Feels like I just posted yesterday but that was a week ago. Where the heck is time going? Well, I kind of know where. Doing the tours is making the time go by pretty fast.

I just got back from another successful trip. This was the trip down south. It went very well despite the weather. It was nasty weather for most of the trip. The group was good about it tho. They seemed to have a good time. The weather did clear up for their flightseeing trip. They were able to fly over Prince William Sound which is the best route they can go on. It was also a nice day when we were in Alyeska. It was mostly a free day for me so I took advantage and went on a 5 mile hike. It was a great hike but oh my gosh was my body revolting the next day! There is a river about 2 miles in that you follow for about half a mile. The trail crosses the river via a hand tram. When I got there I realized that the hand tram was actually over a canyon. The river was about 50' below. Not a super high tram but still, too high for me. I'm very afraid of heights. Not to mention I don't like hanging over an open abyss by a thin rope!! Against my better judgement, I got in the tram and pulled myself across. I was so afraid but it didn't break and I made it to the other side. After starting my heart again, I made the return trip across. About half way, my arms wanted to give out on me. I wasn't thinking how tough it was going to be to get myself back across. My fear of falling spurred me on and I continued to pull myself across and made it. I'm proud of myself for conquering several fears on that hike!

The next day I went down to Seward to drop the group at their cruise ship. As I was waiting for their boat tour to come back I was walking around watching the salmon in the streams. That was pretty cool. They look horrible tho. When they spawn they quit eating and their bodies rapidly deteriorate. I don't like fish but even if I did, I wouldn't want to be eating them! Yuk!!

As I was watching the fish I happened to look up and notice a tour boat coming in, my group's tour boat! I looked at my watch and it was 30 minutes early! Yikes!! The only thing the tour director asked of me was to be on time. I made some big song and dance that I was raised that if I was on time I was late. Crap! I ran to the bus and flew over to the pick up spot. After I got there I discovered that it was a different tour group that was on the boat, not mine!! LOL Oh well, my group came in on time and I was there on time to pick them up. ;-)

I did see a small black bear as I was leaving the hotel in Alyeska to take the group to the train. It ran out in front of me. It was pretty cool to see. He was probably only about 2 years old or so, he was still pretty small.

Guess that's it for today. It's good to be home again. I leave again on Wednesday to head north to Prudhoe. I'll probably only have two more trips left before the season is over. Winter will be here soon. The leaves are already changing.

Bravo to you for hiking and flying over gorges! You go, bro! As I've gotten older I have come to have greater and greater respect for the law of gravity. Post a picture of the tram if you can

I'm also a big utilikilt fan. (both a big fan, and a fan who's big!)

Such beautiful country! and, Woof!

Wow! Kudo to you to go through that single rope tram bridge twice! I would like to walk that bridge though to enjoy the view under. :) By the way, isn't there a saying in Alaska about the “Once the Fireweed blooms to the top and goes to seed we have six weeks ‘til winter."?
